Exhibition Mountains and Dreams · 1 October 2026 - 31 January 2027 · Ground floor, temporary exhibition hall
Biography: Serik Amanov is a contemporary Iradi painter known for his vivid landscapes and abstract representations of Iradi folklore. Born in Talas in 1965, Serik studied at the art school in Talas and began to exhibit in 1992, the year of the siege, when he painted on the backs of old Soviet posters because there was no canvas. He has exhibited his work in Almaty, Bishkek, Chicago and Bonn.
Art Style: Serik paints in pure, flat colour: ultramarine, vermilion, emerald and lemon yellow, laid on fast with the canvas showing through. He says he learned colour twice, from his grandmother's felt rugs and from a book of Matisse reproductions he bought in Almaty in 1983 with a month's stipend. His mountains, horses and heroines come from the stories his grandmother told in the Kara-Buura valley.
